When your big boy asks you to read him a bedtime story!
Some days of mothering feel neverending. Kids just need, need, need.
But they really don't need you for the fun stuff for very long. And bedtime, while exhausting, also holds the sweetest of special routines and memories.
Not long ago, I thought I'd be rubbing Liam's back every bedtime until I died an old woman and now he's giving me the eye roll for interrupting him while he reads in the evening.
Jacob dropped me like a hot brick once he learned to read and it is rare that he will even listen to the story that I'm reading Dylan.
You better believe I jumped at the offer to read to Jacob tonight. It may have been out of pity because I haven't been feeling well, but even though I was exhausted, when Jacob came to my room holding 3 rather long books, "Mom, will you read to me?" YES, I WILL!
He ironically asked me why I was reading like a robot. But I bit my tongue and upped my voices game.
Dylan is still asking me, "Mama, will you sweep in mah beeed?"
Yes! And I will never turn down the offer to snuggle my Littles ever again. I may embarass Liam, but I'm still going to try to hold his hand, too. I wish I hadn't let those nightly cuddles with him slip by. Jacob is going to have to endure all the pettings. Dylan is going to break my heart when he tells me he's too old for me to sweep with him.
