BUBBLE! BUBBLE! BUBBLE!

This is the battle cry! When other people are coming towards us, or sneak up and are on our space, I say "BUBBLE!"

The boys are so great. They look around and find me and find those people in our space and they come and hide behind me like little ducks. It's painful that I have to train them to be fearful of others, but if we don't do this, we would be staying home.

The beach is stressful! But it always has been with three wild boys. I haven't taken the boys to the beach since February. Now that we're allowed to sit and play, I decided it was worth it for us to risk the crowd. We needed to have that cleansing experience of the sound of the surf and the playful energy the sand and water brings us.

Liam gets upset about the people who aren't wearing masks. I feel you, little man. I am angry at them, too. But I have to play it off and tell him he's safe. That he can take off his mask to eat some cookies.
I drew a square around our towel and heap of toys, more as a visual to the little ones where we needed to stay. Liam scratched out "KEEP OUT" and "COVID-19 SAFE". Aw jeez. That was sad. I quickly scuffed it out with my feet and said that we can't be aggressive towards others. But how can a child balance all the warnings and safety precautions without having fear and mistrust? It's something I'm struggling with. Today was a good lesson.

It ended up being a great trip. Liam drew a sand dragon. I had to scold someone else's kid (for wrecking Liam's sand art). Jacob ran around and got covered in sand. Dylan learned about mussels and we watched them burrow into the wet sand.

Yes, we had to BUBBLE UP! But we heard the waves and got some sun and had important chats about staying safe but also being friendly.
