Vista, California is a new favorite destination

The big boys and I drove East into the mountains to the town of Vista. There's a farm stand there with the usual trappings of a country store and a petting zoo. It was pumpkin season on our last visit.  Today was a craft fair/flea market!
There were dozens of tents of crafters and vintage (junk) retailers. We managed to find treasures in both categories.
There was an upgraded petting zoo and ponies to ride! The boys ate junk food, of course, in exchange for letting me poke through used toys and old glass jars and postcards.
It was 77 degrees.  Hard to believe that I was browsing for Christmas presents.
Cubby used his piggy bank savings to bring home an electric guitar and Liam found a ruby pendant and a chunk of snowflake obsidian. In typical fashion, I left with treasures for others, but my gift was spending such a nice day outside, away from the laundry and the floor that needed sweeping. AND I was complimented multiple times on what nice boys I have!
I recently read an article by a mom of kids with special needs who explained why her Facebook wall was filled with only rosy images of idyllic family life. Sure, that wasn't the reality. She didn't share about the tears and fighting and stress of managing behaviors. She just wanted to have a way to look at the best side of her family on days when she was struggling with too much of the harsh reality. I really liked that. And I get it. After a long day of Momming, and yes, yelling, I will spend an hour looking at beautiful pictures of little boys at museums, eating ice-cream, and playing nicely with each other. It is a good thing to focus on the bright spots. The dark times are common, but once they're past, I'd rather remember a day like today.
